Mammograms became the standard \u2014 a critical step forward. But as science advanced, we learned that for nearly half of women, mammograms alone aren\u2019t enough.<\/p><p>By 2014, radiologists knew that <strong>dense breast tissue<\/strong> could hide cancer, just as it had in my own case. Yet today, women with dense breasts are still being missed, misdiagnosed, and left behind. I\u2019ve watched too many activists and too many friends die before the laws could change.<\/p><p>My name is <strong>Michele Young<\/strong>, founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pinkeraserproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Pink Eraser Project<\/em><\/a>. Seven years ago, my world stopped when I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer \u2014 after years of being told my mammograms were clear. My doctor once called it \u201ca moral crime.\u201d She was right. We have the technology to find cancers earlier, but we aren\u2019t using it for everyone.<\/p><p>Through our advocacy in Ohio, we\u2019ve pushed for laws ensuring that women with dense breasts can access MRIs and additional screening without financial barriers. But across the country, millions remain underinsured, forced to choose between paying for groceries or the screening that could save their lives.<\/p><p>This fight is no longer about me; it\u2019s about the thousands of women who will die this year and the tens of thousands more next year if we don\u2019t act. Mammograms became the standard \u2014 a critical step forward. But as science advanced, we learned that for nearly half of women, mammograms alone aren\u2019t enough.<\/p><p>By 2014, radiologists knew that <strong>dense breast tissue<\/strong> could hide cancer, just as it had in my own case. Yet today, women with dense breasts are still being missed, misdiagnosed, and left behind. I\u2019ve watched too many activists and too many friends die before the laws could change.<\/p><p>My name is <strong>Michele Young<\/strong>, founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pinkeraserproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Pink Eraser Project<\/em><\/a>. Seven years ago, my world stopped when I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer \u2014 after years of being told my mammograms were clear. My doctor once called it \u201ca moral crime.\u201d She was right. We have the technology to find cancers earlier, but we aren\u2019t using it for everyone.<\/p><p>Through our advocacy in Ohio, we\u2019ve pushed for laws ensuring that women with dense breasts can access MRIs and additional screening without financial barriers. But across the country, millions remain underinsured, forced to choose between paying for groceries or the screening that could save their lives.<\/p><p>This fight is no longer about me; it\u2019s about the thousands of women who will die this year and the tens of thousands more next year if we don\u2019t act.
