Mi densidad importa<\/strong> - esta afirmaci\u00f3n no podr\u00eda ser m\u00e1s cierta para m\u00ed. En enero de 2022 me diagnosticaron un c\u00e1ncer de mama metast\u00e1sico en estadio IV. Qu\u00e9 gran sorpresa cuando todas mis mamograf\u00edas anteriores fueron normales, la \u00faltima en enero de 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Desde este diagn\u00f3stico, que puso mi mundo patas arriba, ten\u00eda planes de jubilaci\u00f3n para dentro de unos a\u00f1os, y muchos otros planes que quiz\u00e1 ahora no se hagan realidad. No pod\u00eda entender c\u00f3mo pod\u00eda estar en estadio IV: \u00a1lo hab\u00eda hecho todo bien! \u00bfC\u00f3mo era posible? \u00bfCu\u00e1nto tiempo tuve el c\u00e1ncer en mi cuerpo para que llegara a ese estadio?<\/p>\n

Estaba enfadada, deprimida, asustada e insensible. En lugar de sentarme y revolcarme en el \"POR QU\u00c9 YO\", decid\u00ed informarme. Muy pronto me di cuenta de que me hab\u00edan informado mal y de que no me hab\u00edan hecho las pruebas adecuadas. Tengo senos densos. Me dijeron que una mamograf\u00eda 3D era suficiente. \u00a1NO!<\/em> Deber\u00eda haber recibido otras proyecciones para acompa\u00f1arlo.<\/p>\n

El c\u00e1ncer que tengo se llama Lobular<\/a> carcinoma conocido como el \"C\u00c1NCER PEQUE\u00d1O\". Se esconde, aparece en l\u00edneas en una mamograf\u00eda y es dif\u00edcil de detectar en mamas densas. Esto me impuls\u00f3 a publicar en mi p\u00e1gina de Facebook todo lo que estaba aprendiendo para ayudar a salvar a otras mujeres del destino al que ahora me enfrento. Debido a este diagn\u00f3stico, potencialmente perder\u00e9 a\u00f1os de mi vida, no podr\u00e9 hacer las cosas que hac\u00eda antes, por no mencionar el impacto emocional y f\u00edsico que ha supuesto para m\u00ed, mi marido y mi familia.<\/p>\n

A trav\u00e9s de este proceso, conoc\u00ed a Leslie Ferris Yerger<\/a> a trav\u00e9s de un amigo y contacto com\u00fan. I was diagnosed in January 2022 with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. What a big surprise when all my previous mammograms were normal, the last one being January 2021.\u00a0<\/p> <p>Since this diagnosis, which turned my world upside down, I had plans for retirement a few years down the road, and many other plans that may not happen now. I couldn\u2019t understand how I could be Stage IV - I did everything right! How could this be? How long did I have cancer in my body for it to get to that stage?<\/p> <p>I was angry, depressed, scared, and numb. Rather than sit and wallow in \u2018WHY ME\u2019 I decided to get educated. I learned very quickly that I had been misinformed and received inadequate screening. I have dense breasts. I was told a 3D mammogram was sufficient. <em>WRONG!<\/em> I should have received other screenings to accompany it.<\/p> <p>The cancer I have is called <a href=\"https:\/\/lobularbreastcancer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lobular<\/a> carcinoma known as the \u201cSNEAKY CANCER\u201d. It hides, it appears in lines on a mammogram, and is hard to detect in dense breasts. This prompted me to post on my Facebook page about everything I was learning to help save other women from the fate I now face. Because of this diagnosis, I will potentially lose years off my life, I can\u2019t do the things I did previously, not to mention the emotional and physical impact it has put on me, my husband, and my family.<\/p> <p>Through this process, I met <a href=\"https:\/\/mydensitymatters.org\/about\/#leslieferrisyerger\">Leslie Ferris Yerger<\/a> through a mutual friend and contact. Leslie has the same cancer as I do, and is educating people about the inadequacies of our current breast cancer screening norms for women with dense breasts. Leslie is using her diagnosis to save lives. I am very happy I learned of <a href=\"https:\/\/mydensitymatters.org\/\">My Density Matters<\/a>, and I participated in <a href=\"https:\/\/mydensitymatters.org\/events\/fombdd-2022-02-22\/\">\u2018Find Out My Breast Density Day\u2019<\/a> on 2\/22\/22.<\/p> <p>I wish I had known about this a year or two years ago. It may have changed my diagnosis.
