Our breast are made of 2 basic things:

FAT on a mammogram

1) FAT – which looks black on a mammogram

2) FIBROGLANDULAR TISSUE – ducts, lobules & connective tissue, which look white on a mammogram

Your Personal Density is the amount of fat versus fibroglandular tissue you have. The more fibroglandular tissue you have versus fat, the denser your breasts.

There are 2 problems with dense breasts:

PROBLEM #1 –

Cancer also looks white on a mammogram, so the more density you have the harder it is to find the cancer.

Breast glands vs. fatty tissue

PROBLEM #2 –

The higher your density the higher your risk.

A woman with extra dense breasts is 4-6 times MORE LIKELY to develop breast cancer than a woman with almost no density.
